Sedation Dentistry

Put Your Fears to Rest

Oral Sedation and Nitrous Oxide

Are you fearful of the dentist and dental treatment? You're not alone. It's estimated that nearly 50% of people in the U.S. have some fear of the dentist. It's also estimated that 40 million of us are "dental phobics." This group has such severe dental anxiety that they avoid going to the dentist, putting their oral health at risk.

With the comfort and technology offered by modern dentistry, especially in the area of sedation dentistry, no one should be afraid to go to the dentist any more.

To help even the most fearful patients completely relax, Dr. Alex offers Oral Sedation and Nitrous Oxide.

Oral Sedation

Oral Sedation is the perfect option for those patients who:

  • Have severe anxiety
  • Have difficulty getting numb
  • Fear the Novocain injection
  • Hate the noises and smells associated with the dental office
  • Have a strong gag reflex
  • Have difficulty holding their jaw open for a period of time
  • Have highly sensitive teeth
  • Have complex dental problems that will otherwise take several appointments to complete

The process is simple. You take a prescribed medication prior to your appointment. This medication has a wonderfully relaxing affect. Because the medication is so effective, you should have someone drive you to and from your appointment.

While with us, you will be constantly monitored and are never left alone. You are awake enough to respond to any questions, but will be so relaxed, you may not even remember the appointment. Some patients have been known to drift off to sleep.

Sedation dentistry greatly reduces the body's tendency to tense muscles while stressed, so any dental anesthetics you receive will be more effective. Basically, with Oral Sedation, you won't feel a thing.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Some patients experience just a touch of anxiety, not enough to warrant oral sedation. For those patients, we recommend Nitrous Oxide, otherwise known as Laughing Gas.

You don't have to make any special arrangements to receive Nitrous Oxide. When you come in for your appointment, we'll place a small mask over your nose and administer the gas. You will begin to immediately relax and remain that way during your entire treatment. Once your treatment is complete, we turn the gas off and the effects fade away within minutes. You'll be able to drive yourself home or back to work. No time off necessary.
